Tower Lotteries would like to thank 26 year-old Jordan Greenwood for taking the time to speak with our fundraisers at the recent East Anglian Air Ambulance Training Day.
In May 2017, Jordan was knocked off his scooter following a collision with a car and lost his right leg as a result. He was due to emigrate to Canada the next day, however his world was turned upside down after the crash outside a Garden Centre near Thetford. He suffered life-changing injuries and it has taken him nearly 2 years to be able to walk again.
The East Anglian Air Ambulance attended the scene of the accident and flew Jordan to Norwich and Norfolk Hospital for lifesaving operations. The speed at which the helicopter arrived and was able to attend to Jordan’s serious injuries, not only saved his life that afternoon, but has enabled him to walk again and even buy his house that he is currently renovating. He still plans to emigrate in future years, however his aim has now been to speak about the good work of EAAA and he took time out from his busy schedule to thank the fundraisers whose work pays for 2 in every 4 missions that the charity does.
“I cannot thank you all enough,” he said. “It is through your work, that I’m here today and I wanted you to know how grateful I am.
“I don’t remember much about what happened to me, however I remember the rota blades of the helicopter, so I knew it must be pretty serious. It could have been worse, without the money that you generate, the helicopter might not have been there for me that afternoon, so I’m eternally grateful to each and every one of you.”
The East Anglian Air Ambulance are aiming to take their operation 24 hours a day from 2020. In order to achieve this, they will need to generate an additional £1m. It is the aim of Tower Lotteries to help the charity achieve this, which means that more people like Jordan can be saved in their hour of need.
